A Better Way to Do Bunion Surgery

by | Mar 13, 2019 | Regenerative Medicine

At Omega Medical Group (OMG), we meet a lot of people struggling with painful foot problems. Many patients we see weekly are frustrated, scared, or even embarrassed to show their feet due to their bunions.

Why? It’s not so hard to understand, really.

Bunions can be quite painful, after all—especially those that have become severe. In the worst-case scenario, your ability to simply walk, exercise, and enjoy your favorite activities may be taken away from you.

However, even bunions that aren’t causing a lot of pain can be deeply frustrating. Bunions are unsightly and may cause embarrassment or loss of self-confidence in social situations. You may find that you can’t wear your favorite pair of high heels anymore (because they don’t fit) or too painful to wear, and you’re too shy to wear your favorite pair of sandals.

Even worse, because bunions are progressive deformities, surgery is the only way to fix them and restore the natural shape of your foot. This can be scary for a lot of people—whether you’re concerned about the safety of surgery itself, the aesthetics or scarring of your foot afterward, or both.

But fortunately, we have some really good news we’d like to share with you:

The team at OMG understands, and because of that, we’ve committed ourselves to providing the highest caliber bunion surgery services using advanced techniques.

Compared to conventional bunion surgeries, the OMG team can help you:

  • Heal faster
  • Get back on your feet sooner, even in your high heels.
  • Minimize scar tissue and the appearance of scars
  • Significantly reduce the risk of complications and post-operative pain
  • Avoid hospitalization and reduce costs

Sound like something you’d be interested in? In part, here’s how we do it.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques

In a traditional open bunion surgery, the podiatric surgeon must make a large incision across the top or side of your foot—big enough to access all the bones, tendons, and ligaments using traditional surgical tools.

But a surgeon trained in minimally invasive techniques only needs smaller opening and makes the incision with the patient’s skin lines to have minimum scarring.

Not every bunion can be fixed using minimal incision surgery, unfortunately. But for those that can, the benefits are significant:

  • Faster surgical site healing. A smaller incision is going to heal much faster than a large one. There just isn’t as much damaged tissue to be repaired, less swelling and pain.
  • Potentially faster overall recovery. On average, those who are treated with minimal incision surgery tend to recover more quickly and get back to regular activities sooner than those who undergo traditional surgery, including getting in those gorgeous high heels.
  • Less scarring. Obviously, a smaller incision also will result in a smaller, less noticeable area for potential scarring not to mention enhance the potential for tissue regeneration with Clarix Flo.
  • Much lower complication risk. With a smaller incision that heals faster, there is much less bleeding, and swelling so you are far less likely to develop an infection after the surgery.

Clarix Flo for Pain Management and Healing

Clarix Flo is a regenerative medicine injection therapy that has really been a game changer for our patients.

Made from safely donated umbilical cord and amniotic tissue and developed over more than 25 years of medical research, Clarix Flo is packed with regenerative growth factors, cytokines, and the critical signaling complex  -HC-HA/PTX3, to deliver more impactful biology in the form of Regenerative Growth factors.

(We’ve written about Clarix Flo regenerative medicine  a lot in the past as we know the power of this cutting edge regenerative medicine to truly heal; check out our library page for an in-depth look at this exciting treatment option.)

We’ve used Clarix Flo to treat a wide variety of problems, sports injuries, diabetic wounds, and Tendinosis. However, it also pairs extremely well with bunion surgery in order to improve surgical results.

For starters, Clarix Flo is the only human Umbilical Cord and Amniotic Membrane (UC/AM) injectable particulate on the market.  It is exceptionally good at reducing inflammation and pain—which, again, will already be less than you’d expect from a traditional bunion surgery thanks to minimally invasive techniques.

But it’s not just a pain reliever—it’s a healing accelerator, true regenerative medicine. And as we already explained, the faster your surgical site heals, the lower your risk of complications and the lower your odds of developing any visible scarring, with the added bonus of getting you back in your high heels faster.
