Recover From Injuries Faster
One of our primary objectives at Omega Medical Group (OMG) is keeping you as active as possible—both by devising treatment programs that allow you to continue to exercise, and by employing procedures and technologies that help shorten the overall recovery process. We understand that you have a busy lifestyle and you don’t have the time to spend weeks (or months) avoiding weight bearing activity, or trapped on the sidelines while your teammates play on without you.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is just one of the regenerative techniques we use regularly in our office to help you recover from injuries faster. Although the procedure is famous for being a top choice for elite professional athletes, it can benefit anyone struggling with tough pain, or who just wants to get better, faster.
We’ll start with a quick human bio lesson. The liquid portion of your blood is called plasma. Swimming in the plasma, you’ll find three types of smaller components—red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Platelets are probably best known for their clotting ability, which helps your body seal off internal and external wounds. However, platelets continue to aid in the healing process long after the bleeding stops. They also contain powerful proteins called growth factors, which stimulate cellular growth and help repair damaged tissues.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is about delivering more platelets to the injured area, so those growth factors can accelerate the healing process. First, we draw a small amount of your blood. Next, we place that blood in a centrifuge, which spins rapidly to separate out the platelets from the rest of the blood plasma. The platelets can then be recombined with a portion of the plasma to create a platelet-rich solution, with perhaps 5 to 10 times as many platelets per unit of blood than normal. The now platelet-rich plasma is then re-injected into the injured tissue, providing a large supply of growth factors to heal the damage.
PRP therapy is a great solution for many kinds of soft tissue injuries and inflammatory conditions, such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, muscle strains, and more.
At OMG, we’re not just foot care specialists—we see our job as a critical component of your whole-body health and happiness. That’s why we offer PRP therapy, along with a wide variety of other treatment options, to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
